Overview
Description
Sinus of Valsalva aneurysms may be asymptomatic or they may present with angina or with symptoms of valvular insufficiency or outflow obstruction. Once ruptured, sinus of Valsalva aneurysm may produce serious hemodynamic instability such as acute heart failure or sudden death. Aneurysm of sinus Valsalva and coexisting congenital heart disease can easily be diagnosed with echocardiography. The conventional treatment of ruptured sinus of Valsalva is surgical repair under cardio-pulmonary bypass or percutaneous catheter closure. At present, the surgical correction of the rupture has a very low perioperative risk and satisfactory long-term therapeutic results.
