Overview
Description
Pregnancy and obesity is a high-risk combination associated with increased maternal and fetal complications. Obesity (BMI ≥30 kg/m²) in pregnancy raises the risk of gestational diabetes, hypertension, preeclampsia, cesarean delivery, and thromboembolism. Fetal risks include macrosomia, congenital anomalies, stillbirth, and future metabolic disorders. Obesity may complicate ultrasound imaging and anesthesia administration. Management includes preconception counseling, healthy weight gain monitoring, nutritional support, and glucose screening. Multidisciplinary care during pregnancy and delivery improves outcomes for both mother and baby.
