Overview
Description
Sleep breathing disorders are classified into several types based on pathophysiology and clinical features. The main categories include Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), characterized by upper airway collapse; Central Sleep Apnea (CSA), due to reduced respiratory drive; and Mixed Sleep Apnea, with features of both. Other types include Sleep-Related Hypoventilation and Sleep-Related Hypoxemia Disorders, often seen in neuromuscular or pulmonary diseases. Diagnosis is made via polysomnography. Classification aids in guiding targeted therapy, including CPAP, oxygen, or underlying disease management.
