Overview
Description
Hypoxia is a condition in which tissues receive insufficient oxygen to meet metabolic demands. It can result from reduced oxygen availability, poor blood flow, low hemoglobin levels, or impaired oxygen utilization. Types include hypoxic hypoxia (low arterial oxygen), anemic hypoxia (low hemoglobin), stagnant hypoxia (poor circulation), and histotoxic hypoxia (cells can't use oxygen). Symptoms may include breathlessness, fatigue, confusion, and cyanosis. Prolonged hypoxia can lead to organ damage. Causes include high altitude, respiratory diseases, anemia, and cardiovascular disorders.
