Overview

Description

The external ear consists of the auricle (pinna) and external auditory canal, which collect and direct sound waves to the tympanic membrane. The middle ear is an air-filled cavity containing the ossicles (malleus, incus, stapes) that transmit vibrations to the inner ear. It connects to the nasopharynx via the Eustachian tube, which equalizes pressure. The tympanic cavity also contains important structures like the facial nerve canal and round/oval windows, playing a vital role in hearing and balance.
