Description
Liver transplantation is a life-saving procedure for patients with end-stage liver disease, acute liver failure, or certain liver cancers. It involves replacing a diseased liver with a healthy one from a deceased or living donor. Indications include cirrhosis, hepatitis, biliary atresia, metabolic disorders, and hepatocellular carcinoma. Pre-transplant evaluation assesses organ function and transplant suitability. Post-transplant care includes immunosuppressive therapy to prevent rejection, along with infection surveillance. Success depends on timing, donor compatibility, and long-term adherence to medical management.
