Overview

Description

Compared with adults, the veins in babies are smaller and poorly supported by surrounding soft tissue. A premature or sick infant may require multiple cannulations during a prolonged stay in intensive or special care and often veins that have previously been used, may need to be re-cannulated. This presentation deals with cannulation in pediatric populations.
