Overview

Description

While providing protection ischemic, antiplatelet drugs expose patients to a degree of risk of bleeding  a justification that leads many surgeons to recommend to patients the interruption of these medications preoperatively. On the other hand, the withdrawal of the antiplatelet agent in the perioperative period may be associated with mortal thrombotic complications. Thus, surgeons are frequently confronted with decision making on whether or not to discontinue antiplatelet therapy during the perioperative period for noncardiac surgeries because they must take into account the potential protective effect of antiplatelet therapy vs the risk of bleeding caused by these drugs .However, especially in the perioperative period, the use of these medications requires a carefully balanced assessment of their risks and benefits. This presentation deals with antiplatelets and non cardiac surgery.
