Overview

Description

Lipoproteins are spherical complexes of lipids and proteins that transport lipids through the bloodstream. They consist of a core of triglycerides and cholesterol esters, surrounded by a shell of phospholipids, free cholesterol, and apolipoproteins. Types include chylomicrons (transport dietary fats), VLDL (carry liver-made triglycerides), LDL (deliver cholesterol to tissues), and HDL (remove excess cholesterol to the liver). Apolipoproteins help in structural stability, receptor binding, and enzyme activation. Lipoproteins are crucial in lipid metabolism and cardiovascular health.
