Overview
Description
Failure to thrive (FTT) refers to inadequate physical growth in infants or young children, typically identified by weight below the 5th percentile or poor weight gain over time. Causes are multifactorial—classified as organic (e.g., chronic illness, malabsorption) or non-organic (e.g., neglect, feeding issues). Evaluation includes detailed history, physical examination, growth monitoring, and selective investigations. Management focuses on addressing underlying causes, nutritional rehabilitation, and caregiver support. Early recognition and intervention are crucial to prevent long-term developmental and health consequences.
