Difficult Separation From Cardiopulmonary Bypass

Overview
Description
Difficult separation from CPB is a critical complication in cardiac surgery. There is a clear association between difficult separation from CPB, and morbidity and mortality. Knowledge of patient- and procedure-related risk factors should be integrated in the medical decision process along with the implementation of perioperative protective strategies. Team education, adoption of checklists, and simulation-based training may further enhance physician’performances during the CPB weaning process. Integration of hemodynamic targets, TEE assessment, along with a goal-directed therapy involving pharmacological agents and eventually mechanical support devices can potentially improve the outcome. This presentation deals with entire gamut of difficult separation of cardiopulmonary bypass.
