Description
Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES) is a neurotoxic state characterized by headache, seizures, altered mental status, and visual disturbances. It is associated with acute hypertension, eclampsia, renal failure, autoimmune diseases, or immunosuppressive therapy. MRI typically shows vasogenic edema in the parieto-occipital regions. Management focuses on controlling blood pressure, treating the underlying cause, and supportive care. PRES is usually reversible with timely intervention, but delays may lead to permanent damage or complications. Prompt recognition and management are key to recovery.
