Anesthetic Implication of Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy on Perioperative care

Overview
Description
Chemotherapy and radiotherapy significantly affect perioperative anesthetic management. Chemotherapy can cause cardiotoxicity (e.g., doxorubicin), nephrotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, bone marrow suppression, and neuropathy, necessitating preoperative organ function assessment. Radiotherapy may lead to fibrosis, difficult airway (head/neck), pulmonary fibrosis, or poor wound healing. Anesthetic drugs must be chosen cautiously, and fluid management individualized. Infection risk is higher due to immunosuppression. Close postoperative monitoring is essential. Multidisciplinary planning ensures optimized outcomes and reduces perioperative morbidity in cancer patients undergoing surgery.
