Intensive Care Units are basically organ-support units. They support Ventilation with Mechanical Ventilation, Cardiac failure with Inopressors and IABP, Renal failure with Renal Replacement Therapy and other organ-related ailments and failures with similar organ support. Whilst all this happens, it cannot be denied that, many a time, we tend to forget GI failure with Nutritional support. Clinical Nutrition, which could be a game-changer in such scenarios, is but still a developmental science.
