POCUS – Airway

Overview
Description
Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in airway management provides rapid, real-time assessment of airway anatomy and confirmation of procedures. It helps identify trachea vs. esophagus, guide endotracheal intubation, and confirm tube placement by visualizing bilateral lung sliding. POCUS detects airway edema, vocal cord movement, and cricothyroid membrane location, especially useful in difficult airways or emergencies. It’s non-invasive, bedside, and valuable in pre-intubation planning and post-intubation confirmation, enhancing safety and accuracy in airway management across various clinical settings.
